On this day, Thursday, September 1, I am headed back to Aeon AGAIN. This place reminds me a lot of Target back home. I have a frequent flyer card at Target because I probably popped in there about twice a week. I have many miles logged at Target. If I was missing it at all, I have found Target’s replacement.
So after biking with the kids to school John and I stopped by Aeon. It’s one of the anchor businesses in Q’s Mall. Though there’s a Starbucks in this mall too, it drives John crazy that it doesn’t open until 10! He says who can wait that long for their morning caffeine!?
Aeon is a grocery store, but it is also has a pharmacy department, a clothing department, an electronics department, a large book store and office and stationery department, a household goods department, a toy department, a bike department, an electronics department and so on! This Aeon is two stories tall and my friend says it is one of the larger Aeons with a great selection, so we are lucky. It also has an amazing prepared foods area where they serve hot and cold foods made daily. And it has a pretty large wine section but I haven’t really checked that out yet.
I looked back at my credit card statement and I (or maybe John) shopped at Aeon on August 15, 18, 21, 22, 25, 26, 29, and 31. That’s absurd! Fortunately or unfortunately, Aeon is less than a 5 minute bike ride away. Here are some photos of the extensive prepared foods selection!
I love all these sandwich triangles! They are so pretty! On the weekend the sandwiches are completely wiped out.
These stickers say that each hand roll is 98 yen apiece. The sushi is made fresh daily and on different days there are different kinds. We went on a Tuesday morning once and there were lots of long, thin sushi rolls that you cut up after you get home. There was quite a crowd gathered to get those.
While we are at Aeon I decided we’d better buy batteries for the golden snitch that Avalon bought at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. This turns out to be a monumental task. The snitch apparently takes 3 watch-sized batteries and the battery type is printed in micro-mini letters in the back of the battery compartment. The snitch is golden colored so it’s really hard to read. I brought the snitch with me and we asked one lady at Aeon for help. She studied it for a while, then she flagged down another lady who peered into the battery compartment, then got out a magnifying glass and took it over to the light. Then she flagged down another lady and gave her the magnifying glass. In all, 3 ladies took about 20 minutes to come to a consensus on the type of batteries we needed! They are so helpful in Japan. They don’t give up with an I don’t know for an answer. And we ended up buying the correct batteries! Yay, the snitch flutters its wings.
After school today it is time for Avalon’s trial run at the “Gymnastics Club Minoo.” All 5 of us biked down to the Minoh train station and the gymnastics club is very close to there. They were expecting Avalon so we didn’t have to have another painful conversation involving charades and Google translate! The girls in class were so nice to Avalon! She had a great time. It was a beginning class and a lot of it was too easy, but you can tell the instructors put a lot of emphasis on strength training and some of this was hard for Avalon. For instance, she isn’t used to wheelbarrowing all around, up ramps and over futon cushions. Some of the kids were impressive at this!
We’re going to go back again on Monday and try out the intermediate class just to see what that’s like. We are excited to find gymnastics for Avalon and as a bonus it will help with her Japanese since they don’t speak English.
